Phnom Kulen - Sacred Shivalingas carved in the riverbed. The glorious Angkor dynasty was founded on Phnom Kulen called “Mahendra Parvat” by King Jayavarman II in AD 802. Hundreds of sacred Shivalingas were carved by the Khmer Kings in the beds of the rivers flowing down from Phnom Kulen and Kbal Spean to the plains of Siem Reap. The water flowing thus was sanctified, and so was the Khmer land. (Image # 00168).
