Devatas in Samudramanthan. - outside Angkor Thom. Angkor Thom was founded by Jayavarman VII and was one of the largest cities of Khmer empire. Its modern name means Great capital city. It is sqaure in size enclosed by a moat and a 8 m high wall running 3 km on each side covering an area of 900 hectares. The moat is 100 m wide and 5 to 6 m deep. There are four gates 23 m high on all four sides with an additional gate known as victory gate on the east. On its south gate, the passage is flanked by 108 devatās and asuras churning the ocean of milk passing across the moat. Inside the wall, in each corner, a small temple called Prasat Chrung is located. (Image # 00232).
